Frequently Asked Questions

What is the shelf life of your products?

Our products are truly natural and do not contain any synthetic preservatives. Each product label contains a PAO (period-after-opening) symbol to indicate its estimated shelf life, which usually ranges between 12-24 months depending on the product. To ensure the best freshness, make sure to keep all products away from direct sunlight and at room temperature. As a rule of thumb, you should take care not to introduce water into the containers to avoid spoilage.

Are your ingredients truly natural and organic?

We source the highest quality natural ingredients we can find. This includes herbs, oils, clays, salts, essential oils, extracts and hydrosols. Most of the ingredients we source are certified organic. However, there are some ingredients, like clays and salts, which are not harvested like plants and therefore those certifications do not apply.  When organic is not available, we source wildcrafted, ethically sourced or fair-trade from smaller farms and co-ops that do not have the resources to do organic certification.

What does wildcrafted mean?

Wildcrafted or wild harvested simply means plants that are not farmed of sprayed with any chemical of pesticide. They are innately wild, native and organic while growing in their normal habitat.

Are your products safe for eczema, acneic or sensitive skin types?

I can relate to these skin issues on a very personal level–I have sensitive skin and have experienced spots of eczema and rashes when my body is out of balance. I formulated these products while going through years of healing internally and experiencing problematic skin so can attest to their gentle yet effective benefits. However, the delicacy of the skin is different for everybody and can change depending on climate, season, hormones or stress. My words of advice are–be gentle. You don’t need to “scrub” or “rub” your skin to clean or moisturize it. Our products are pure and the formulations are simple so let the ingredients work for themselves. You can always spot check for peace of mind. And always listen to your intuition.

How do you use facial oil? Can I wear makeup over facial oil?

We recommend applying after cleansing and toning. You can do both morning and night, or simply do a cold-water rinse in the morning and apply our Lavender Hydrosol or facial toner. Face oils are intended to take place of a cream or lotion moisturizer. The amount of oil needed and desired varies for everybody. Most people use 3-5 drops. However, you may find 2 drops or even 8 drops is your magic number–adjust to find what works for your skin. Start with a few drops and work up from there. If you feel dry after applying, you may want to use more. If you feel oily, try reducing the amount. It is most beneficial to apply when the skin is moist as to support spread ability and absorption. We love adding a few spritz of the Lavender Hydrosol in the palm of the hand with a few drops of one of our face oils and pat into skin.

You can wear makeup over facial oil. Let your skin absorb the oils for 3–5 minutes before applying makeup since the oil does need time to sink in. You may find that using less face oil when applying under makeup is beneficial.

Is your Balance –> Glow powdered cleanser safe to remove eye makeup?

Balance –> Glow is a gentle exfoliant so we do not recommend using it to remove eye makeup. This formula was designed to remove light makeup and daily impurities while providing a balance of gentle exfoliation and emolliency for a smooth, glowing complexion. It is safe to use around the eye area but avoid getting into eyes. Our favorite easy DIY eye makeup remover is using a dab of coconut or olive oil to clean lids and lashes– even works for water proof mascara.

What are hydrosols?

Hydrosols are the water condensate produced during a steam or water distillation of plant material–think about the process that occurs to create essential oil. They carry various medicinal constituents depending on what plant is used but anti-inflammatory and antibacterial are some of the prominent properties. Sometimes hydrosols are referred to as distillates or hydrolates. You might even see them called "flower" or "floral" waters," but they may not be true hydrosols. Hydrosols are milder and less concentrated than essential oils making them safe and gentle enough for general use. You can learn more about these magical waters on our blog here and here
