Skin Barrier Love: Hydrosols That Make A Difference

In a previous post we explained what hydrosols are and how they are made. If you missed it, check it out here.

Today, we are discussing 3 reasons why they might be your skin's new best friend.

1. Hydrosols have a true affinity for the skin.

These aromatic waters carry all of the essence of the plant in every drop, which means they have some pretty powerful benefits to share. The specific properties depend on the plant distilled; however common benefits cited are hydrating, anti-inflammatory, soothing, anti-bacterial, balancing and tonifying. They are truly a perfect natural ingredient to improve and restore your skin to its healthiest state.

2. They are gentle and safe making them suitable for most skin types.

Hydrosols do not contain alcohol or toxic preservatives that harm and dry out the skin like other toners found in beauty products. They are naturally enhanced with nutrients to improve and maintain healthy skin. Acting as a true tonic with their mild yet highly effective properties, they don't require dilution and are suitable for various skin types including sensitive skin. You'll need to double check the plant you are using for any safety concerns that you may have.

 3. Easy to use!

They have many applications in which they can be used, but you can literally mist away and that's all you do! Not only do they have a positive impact on the skin but the scent alone will leave you feeling refreshed as it evokes all of your senses. They make the perfect compliment to moisturizing when combined with facial oils. You can also mix them in a face mask or scrub as the water component. We utilize them in our skin care formulations as the water element.

Some of the most commonly used and loved hydrosols for skin are: Witch Hazel, Rose Geranium, Rose, Lavender, Helichrysum, Tea Tree, Rosehip, Chamomile, Cucumber, Lemon Balm, Yarrow and Neroli.
